Lozi's top picks for Christmas
Tis the season to be Jolly! As we head full steam into the Christmas season, we thought we would ask a few of our team members what it is they love about Christmas, what they would love to find in their stockings in december and any advice they have to help avoid Christmas stress!
Soroush - Founder and Director.
What is your favourite thing about Christmas? I grew up in Tehran in Iran where we don't celebrate Christmas but we celebrate Persian new year in March. For me all of these celebrations are about surrounding yourself with the people you love. I have spent the last few Christmases with my fiancee's family in Paris and nothing beats having a great raucous time with your favourite people in the world.
A great stocking filler? I spend a lot of my time sketching, be it pieces for the new collection or bespoke designs clients have requested, so I am always partial to a pencil or two. I particularly love Cleo Skribent's Messograf Mechanical pencil, as it doubles as a measuring tool and a ruler. And then you could also give Batch Works's awesome 3D printed pencil holder to put them all in.
Best way to avoid Christmas stress? Do your shopping early. I always aim to have most of my Christmas shopping out of the way before the end of November, so then I can just relax and enjoy December. We are bringing out the £9.99 collection in just over a week - a great easy way to sort a load of your shopping in one go. Keep an eye out on the website for updates.
The Lozi piece you would want for yourself? I have been promising my fiancee that I will sort out our living room, so a bespoke shelving system would be ideal. We have a lot of books and records we would love to display and have organised so it isn't chaos every time we try to find something.
Santa is feeling extra generous this year... I have been lusting over Gramavox's Vertical Turntable for ages, such a beautiful way of turning your records into decoration. So many vinyls come as collector editions nowadays with stunning design on the cover, I find it is a shame to not show them off whenever possible. And if he really wanted to make my Christmas, the Lovely Creatures triple LP by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds would also be rather nice...
Dylan - Maker
What is your favourite thing about Christmas? Relaxing! I love spending time with family and just letting life slow down. Everything is always so hectic in December that by the time Christmas comes I am usually knackered.
A great stocking filler? I am obsessed with Pop Chart Lab's The Chart of Hand Tools. They do endless series of posters for geeking out on a specific subject. I guess I am one of the lucky ones for whom my passion is also my profession. I also love Mur Lifestyle's tiffin tins, a great and elegant way to bring lunch and a snack into work!
Best way to avoid Christmas stress? Just enjoy yourself and bring it back to the basics. Perfectly wrapped presents, homemade mince pies and hand crafted Christmas cards are not worth the stress. Sure, they would be lovely but it is more lovely to have everyone relaxed and enjoying themselves than running around like headless chickens in a panic. And buy cheap crackers. They have the worst jokes, so are obviously the best.
What Lozi piece would you want for yourself? I am in love with the Rio Chair, such a beautiful design. I would love one in my house to chill out in on a lazy Sunday.
Santa is feeling extra generous this year... I follow Animaro on Instagram and love their new Crane Floor Lamp, inspired by the necks of birds. They have just successfully kickstarted this project and it is now available in their shop. Santa, if you are reading this....
Leila - Press and Marketing manager.
What is your favourite thing about Christmas? It is all about the food. Not forcibly Turkey as that is remarkably difficult to cook properly, but about endless huge meals, too much chocolate, mulled wine when you go to the pub, mince pies at any occasion. Many of my friends forage fruit in London and make their own liquors with it, nothing beats home made sloe gin.
A great stocking filler? I have recently got a bit obsessed with the brand Niaski, who make hilarious cat themed pins that turn famous artists into cats. Brilliant as a secret santa present or stocking filler. I also absolutely love Lynnie Z's energetic bold and colourful prints, which whilst maybe a bit pricey as a stocking filler would make awesome presents.
Best way to avoid Christmas stress? Send your cards out early so you don't get yourself into a flurry. Blotter does an amazing service where they will hand write and send cards out for you, all you need to do is give them addresses and what you want written inside. Stress free. And also start the food prep on the 24th - you can stuff the turkey, par boil potatoes, clean and score the veg and prep as much as possible so Christmas day isn't a panic.
What Lozi piece would you want for yourself? I adore the Sunset Lamp, it gives off the most magical glow and warms up any space. It is perfect if you don't have a fireplace but still want that warm and cosy feeling this Christmas.
Santa is feeling extra generous this year... Ahhh well. He would have to be quite generous as I don't even know how much this would cost, but I would love a full tableware set by Chris Casey, an American potter who does just the most delicate and powerful pieces.
