A creative home workspace
Joana & Martino, London NW3 2LY
Functional space for creating and learning
Joanna and Martino had recently renovated their home near Hampstead Heath, and wanted to create a cohesive family workspace on the second floor — practical for daily life, inspiring for creative work, and adaptable for their family.
Lozi worked with the couple to create two zones, each defined by the nature of their creative interest. For Martino, a devoted guitarist, his side of the space was for playing and storing his beloved collection of rare guitars. For Joanna, a fashion designer, it had to support her creative process — from pattern cutting and sewing to research and inspiration. Together, they imagined a space that their children could also share: a place for music, making, and everyday family life.
Together we were able to bring together their distinct styles. Martino’s love of rich, dark tones met Joanna’s preference for bright, energetic finishes in a balanced composition of cherry and maple. Signature Lozi details — from dowel shelving to capped handles — thread the two spaces together, creating a calm, functional, and beautifully personal environment for the whole family.

Martino’s cherry storage combines open dowel shelving with generous space for his amplifiers, creating a display that is both functional and refined. His tall guitar cabinet is lined with soft cork to gently cushion his guitar collection, while reeded glass doors offer a glimpse of the instruments within.

On the opposite wall, curved cork-lined holders keep each guitar safely mounted and ready to play. A mobile cubby on caster wheels is a flexible piece that lets Martino’s amplifiers move wherever the music takes him.

On the other side of the room is Joana’s sewing workspace in a light maple finish. Joan’s bespoke storage keeps every sewing and craft item beautifully organised, with an adjustable pegboard, flexible shelving, small drawers, and a dowel rail for hanging fabrics — allowing easy access to every tool.

Open dowel shelving echoes Martino’s cherry design, bringing visual cohesion across both workspaces. A large sewing table sits in the bay window, bathed in natural light — the perfect spot for detailed work.

At the heart of the room, a mobile cutting table provides a practical surface for fabric and pattern work. Its recycled Smile Plastics top is engraved with measurements for effortless precision, while generous open storage and a paper roll holder keep everything within easy reach, we even made a fabric weight from offcuts.

Opposite Joana’s mains storage is generous wardrobe storage which provides space for finished garments and everyday ironing. A custom fold-down ironing board gives a large surface for pressing fabric, which neatly tucks away when not in use. The simple plywood mechanism locks the ironing board sturdily in place.

What began as a design for two parents has become a shared creative workshop for the whole family — a flexible space that supports work, hobbies, and learning, day after day.
