Making Waves: three new designs

We're proudly presenting the three most recent additions to our signature Wave collection of furniture, so you can now choose to perfectly complement your Lozi dining, living and kitchen furniture with the new Wave Stool, Wave Coffee Table or Wave Beam light. We began developing these pieces at the start of this year, and have poured love and care into each one through an intense and rewarding journey of prototyping and design development. This is a collection of unusual shapes and softened profiles, building on the signature Wave joint we developed in 2017 (link) and playing with angles, curves and unexpected shapes to create a group of pieces that elegantly add character and interest, with the softly modern and minimal feel you expect from Lozi.

The new pieces are on show as part of our Making Waves exhibition, which is the first event in the showroom of our new Work/Shop at 280 Hackney Road in east London, so you can pop in to see the full wave collection them in person, meet the creative team and take a tour of the workshop downstairs where every piece is made.  We'll share more about the process behind each piece in the coming weeks, but here's a little introduction to each one, and you can also find them in our online shop.

The Wave Stool

With the Wave Stool we wanted to offer the flexibility and informality of a stool, but with the inviting comfort of a proper seat. The curved top and generous width make it supportive enough for a long relaxing dinner party, while the slim side profile and uncluttered outline make it ideal for both furnishing compact dining spaces and occasional use around a busy home.

The gently curved seat enables the legs to splay outwards when viewed from the front for stability, while still entering the top at 90 degrees for strength. The legs are parallel when viewed from the side, giving a modest footprint front-to-back. The thickness provided by the signature Wave joint under the seat eliminates the need for braces further down the legs and leaves the top surface uninterrupted, allowing a clean and minimal profile.

Wave Coffee Table

The Wave Coffee Table features an unusually shaped table top with an asymmetric, organic kidney-bean outline. Its sweeping curves make for a fluid and friendly companion to any seating arrangement, inviting people to gather round and shuffle up, while on a practical level the rounded shape is both kid-friendly and kind to the shins.

The wave details on the underside are set at individual angles, placing the legs closer together on the concave side, so it has a characterful stance and can be positioned to face inwards towards the seating or outwards towards the rest of the room. It’s a playful piece that’s full of considered details, like the rings carved into the solid wood legs just above the floor to bring balance to the piece and visually anchor the table in its surroundings.

Wave Beam

The Wave Beam is a deceptively simple wooden suspension light with an unusually soft and rounded feel. In this piece the wood veneer wraps right around the solid dowel at either end, meeting at the top to create the tabs that attach it to the suspension wires. A slot carved in the underside of the dowel houses an LED tube.

The effect is a simple linear light that can be used to offer direct lighting over a table or counter, combining a minimal outline with the warmth of wood and softened shapes that we do best. It can also be hung creatively in multiples to define space through the relationships between several of them, as seen in the window area of our new showroom.
